While it is annoying having some shortcuts in the start menu after a fresh install, they're gone in two seconds and I find that most of the additional crap that comes with an install doesn't affect performance.

Of course it'll always be a platform for developing applications but I think they're going to do away with non pro line products and discontinue mostly all first party Mac apps aside from Xcode. Simply because it has more power and flexibility it feels like they're leaving it behind.

I feel they see it as something that just isn't as neatly packaged as iOS. Just depreciating commonly used functionality. I feel like they're getting ready to do away with MacOS as a consumer platform though. The animations don't match and UI chrome is different too (gradient grey vs flat white etc), but it's the closest thing on the market. Ideally even iOS isn't quite as consistant with macOS.

Android doesn't have a desktop counterpart aside from Chrome (which doesn't provide the functionality I need whatsoever) or Linux (which has its own issues with design guidelines). I prefer different applications to use the same design guidelines and have consistent interactions. I actually have a Dell PowerEdge running Server 2016 in my homelab, so there are certain things that are just easier with Windows when you're managing your server environment.

That _never_ happens on Windows (assuming your network isn't a mess, and mine isn't.). Selected groups of files and moving them into new folders is more tedious and I actually have file operations time out from time to time on a Mac. The Mac gives you a lengthy delay of blank box, then files appear. The file list just appears instantly and you watch all the metadata and thumbnails just rapidly appear down the line. Windows can pull all metadata and give me thumbnails really quickly. I have a home server with a few TB of stuff and just organizing a folder with 500 photos into subfolders and deleting duplicates is much more tedious and frustrating on the MAC. Macs really just suck when you're dealing with SMB shares that contain lots of media. Also dealing with all my photos, videos, movies and TV shows is just so much faster and easier on a Windows machine. I guess the takeaway from my post is - why not just use both? :D The same goes for my Mac mini - it works just like my MacBook and hasn't failed me. I spend more time using my stuff to do what I want than struggling with hardware to get things to work the way I want. My Windows desktops are great performing machines that do their jobs without complaint. Both my ThinkPad and my MacBook run for days and days without reboots, don't crash, sleep/wake properly and don't do weird annoying crap.

To me, both operating systems offer the same level of reliability. I like Windows for dealing with networking stuff, particularly file management on SMB shares. I have a gaming PC and Windows is the platform of choice for that.

I like being able to upgrade my hardware easily and build my own computers. With Windows, I like the feeling of freedom to configure the system more granularly. I like the integration possible with my iPhone. Text looks good on MacOS to me and that's important to me. I like how it's relatively minimalistic and most things are automatic and handled in the background. With MacOS, I like how well integrated the hardware is with the software. I don't prefer one over the other, but I appreciate both OSes for various reasons.
